Ladies and gentlemen, we have how entered The Cas Zone.

Woohooooooooooo!!! Best entrance EVER. And he's lived up to it consistently ever since. That has to be rare.

Here, have the whole darn scene. Yay Cas!! :D

Dean's rebirth was AWESOME. No helping hand for him, he did it all by himself. And he didn't pass out after either. Take that, Adam. :P

You know, I honestly don't think he remembered much about Hell at first. He had flashbacks and nightmares for a while, yes, but we didn't see it weighing on him heavily until after Yellow Fever. But I'll talk more about that when we get there.

This whole episode had a different feel to it, like they were starting the season over from scratch. Characters were meeting and reuniting all over the place, it was great. And btw, I'm glad Dean's reunions with Bobby and Sam started out with them attacking him, LOL. It's not this show's style to be all mushy with stuff like that, so while the hugs were awesome, I'm glad he had to work a bit to get there. And the holy water bit cracks me up every time. ;)

Poor Dean, though... he calls Sam, the number isn't in service. He calls Bobby, and he keeps hanging up on him. Dude's starting to feel unwanted here! And also, he really must have been freaked out that Sam might be dead. The situation sure looked bleak right before he died, and he was calling for Sam in Hell like he thought he'd be there. I love his relief when Bobby says he's alive. And that he knew exactly what name and social security number Sam would be using, LOL.

Oh, and I love Dean's hesitation before he cuts himself to prove he's not a shapeshifter. It's like "Man, and I just got this skin, too..." ;)

Soooooooo... Sam and Ruby in a motel room with a heart on the door and a mirror on the ceiling. Waiting for a pizza (although we never saw it arrive). Ruby in her underwear listening to music, Sam in the shower. Pink lacy bra stuffed down the back of the couch. Um, yeah. I really don't think this was their usual M.O. everywhere they went (because for one thing, Ruby in a pink lacy bra? Uh, no), but I think Ruby was trying any and every tactic in the book to keep Sam's mind off the fact that they were in the town where Dean was buried. Oh, and I often wonder if Ruby rode shotgun in the Impala on a regular basis, and if so... that was a weird song for Sam to be listening to with a demon beside him. *cough*

What I'd really like to know is whether or not Ruby knew who was knocking at the door. Was she warned ahead of time that Dean was coming, or was she just that quick at covering her tracks and playing innocent? I love that just as Sam was getting over the shock of seeing Dean, before he had a chance to think about Ruby being in the room, she gave them a cover story - I'm a random chick who doesn't have a clue what's going on here. The look on Sam's face when she corrected him on her name, hahaha! "So gonna kill her for that later." Heh. It really made it look like he was off the rails, hooking up with a random chick in the middle of a hunt. Even Dean doesn't do that.

Oh, and keep your eyes on Dean and Bobby in the background during the bit where Ruby's leaving. The look they exchange at the "Kristy" thing is priceless. ;)

The whole scene with Sam and Dean arguing over who brought Dean back is just... perfect. Sam's so angry over being so hopeless and useless for the past few months, and you can see traces of how broken he must have been in the meantime. He really did wish it had been him to get Dean out of Hell. :(

HE WORE THE AMULET. *sniffle* And presented it to Dean a second time, awwwww. Love it. :)

May I just point out that Dean wore Sam's Yummy Brown Jacket of Awesomeness in this episode? And that Sam was stuck with THE SALT-AND-BURN SHIRT. But I'm not bitter. Nope. :P

Sam is an excellent liar. I mean, we've always known that, but seriously... dude is an EXCELLENT LIAR. Talking about not going "down that road" because it was "practically your dying wish"... no wonder Dean feels so angry and betrayed when he finds out the truth. :(

PAMELA!!! I really came to love her. I love that she always called Sam "Grumpy," LOL. I miss that gal.

The first diner scene - if you watch closely, when Sam moves to get up when the waitress demon threatens to send Dean back to Hell, he lifts his hand. He lifts his hand!! And it's all twitchy as he lowers it back down onto the table, too. Nice little touch there. I love that he and the demon kept eying each other, like they both knew how easily he could wipe her off the map. "I've been killing a lot more demons than that lately." Yeah, with his MIND. :D

You know, I really did feel bad for Sam here. He's been so broken and desperate all this time, and now Dean comes back and everything's supposed to just snap back to normal. But he CAN'T just snap back to normal. Just like Dean has some PTSD issues going on and Bobby seems to get on some kind of AA program, Sam has some lingering effects from the past few months, too. For example, he's used to being in control now. Ruby was very careful about setting that up. Now Dean comes back and immediately takes charge again. How is Sam supposed to deal with that? He doesn't want to pick fights with the brother he's been mourning all this time, so he resorts to sneaking around. Also he probably felt like he was protecting Dean, like Sam was the big brother now and Dean was a wounded soldier who didn't know as much about what was going on as Sam did. It really made sense to me that Sam would keep things going with Ruby like he did. But meanwhile, Dean thought he was protecting Sam and sneaking around behind his back, too. Silly boys.

"It's the end. We're dead. We're all dead." That demon wasn't exactly an optimist, LOL. Demons got a lot cockier around angels as the season progressed. Although I would imagine she was just a low-level demon the angels could smite pretty easily.

Sam's first on-screen demon pull... I was SCREAMING with the awesome!! I was so afraid they'd laid the powers storyline to rest. SO wasn't expecting it to be ramped up by a thousand, woohoo! I love that while Ava learned to control demons to kill people for her, Sam only ever used that power to bind them and/or exorcise them. He really did have good intentions, poor boy.

New Ruby - I honestly don't see any issues with the way she was portrayed in season 4. This was the Ruby from Malleus Maleficarum - sympathetic, human-like, fighting on the Winchesters' side seemingly without a thought for herself. After Dean died, she saw her opening. She became Sam's entire family - Dean's snark and partnership, Mary's nurturing and, well, feeding if you want to get grossly technical, John's tough love and instruction, Jessica's emotional and sexual comfort, and something else that Sam has always craved - submission. Sam could send her packing with a wave of his hand, and she knew it. She had to soften up and make him feel compassion and kinship for her, or he would never accept her as a necessary part of his existence. He needed to NEED her, to feel like he couldn't get by without her, to believe they were equals but that he held the control in their relationship. I LOVE the changes in her from season 3 to season 4. I even love that she went from leggy blonde to petite brunette. Everything she did was to manipulate Sam into doing whatever she wanted him to do, but to believe it was his idea to do it. She was a genius at it!

Castiel... I don't even know if I can put my Castiel love into words. His entrance was SO UNBELIEVABLY AWESOME. I was practically bouncing around the room when he said he was an angel of the Lord! I so didn't think Kripke was ever gonna go there. Not only did he go there, but he made it AWESOME in every conceivable way. And Misha was born for this role. He's never lost any of the Castielness we saw in that first scene - he's always been detached yet compassionate, wise yet curious, earnest yet restrained. He's taken Cas on quite a journey, yet he's never lost sight of the fact that he's fighting on God's side, the side of RIGHT, no matter what his brothers and sisters are doing in His name. I like to think of Castiel and Ruby as true believers - Castiel in God, and Ruby in Lucifer. The difference between them is that Ruby was doing the manipulating while Castiel was being manipulated just as much as the Winchesters were. But he didn't let that hold him back. Gah, I love Cas so much!!

"Because God commanded it. Because we have work for you." What an awesome way to end the episode!! And now we know why it took them so long to tell Dean what that work was. That was really all Cas knew at the time.

Randomness -
*Dean escapes from Hell, can't find a human anywhere to help him, is being chased by some unknown being... but he still makes time for Busty Asian Beauties. Good to know some things never change, right? :P
*Jensen has told the story that Kim Manners insisted on throwing real glass at him when the windows in the gas station went, so that cut on his arm through the episode was real, heh. He considers the scar to be a way to always remember Kim. Aww.
*What I can never figure out is, why was the gas station abandoned? Did Cas somehow arrange that? Hmm.
*It's hinted that Bobby buried himself in drink during those missing months. I noticed for the rest of the season he would refuse beers and stuff. Was he struggling with alcoholism?
*I seem to recall hearing that the song that played on Sam's iPod was by Jason Manns, a friend of Jensen's. He often plays at conventions, and his music has been used a couple times in the show.
*When Bobby's doing his artwork and the summoning ritual, the music from Houses of the Holy is playing in the background. Clever. ;)
*Poor Misha didn't know at the time how long he'd have to use that deep, growly voice, heh heh. I bet they go through a lot of throat lozenges on that set. It's like they all try to out-growl each other. :P

Quotes -

Dean: Your name is Robert Steven Singer, you became a hunter after your wife got possessed, you're about the closest thing I have to a father.
(Awwwwwww!)

Bobby: But... how did you bust out?
Dean: I don't know. I just, uh... I just woke up in a pine bo...
Bobby: *splashes holy water in his face*
Dean: *spits* I'm not a demon either, you know.
Bobby: Sorry. Can't be too careful.

Dean: I should look like a Thriller video reject.

Bobby: I wanted you salted and burned, the usual drill, but Sam wouldn't have it.
Dean: Well, I'm glad he won that one.

Dean: *on the phone* The name's Wedge Antilles. Social's 2474. Thank you. *hangs up*
Bobby: How'd you know he'd use that name?
Dean: Are you kiddin' me? What don't I know about that kid?

Dean: Hey, Bobby? What's the deal with the liquor store, hmm? Your parents out of town or something?
Bobby: Like I said, last few months ain't been all that easy.

Ruby: So where is it?
Dean: Where's what?
Ruby: The pizza that takes two guys to deliver?

Ruby: So, are you two, like... together?
Sam: What?? No. No. He's my brother.
Ruby: Oh. Got it, I-I guess.

Ruby: So call me.
Sam: Yeah. Yeah, sure thing, Kathy.
Ruby: Kristy.
Sam: Right!

Dean: So, tell me, what'd it cost?
Sam: The girl? I don't pay, Dean.

Sam: I tried everything, that's the truth! I tried opening the devil's gate, hell I tried to bargain, Dean, but no demon would deal, alright? You were rotting in Hell for months, for MONTHS, and I couldn't stop it. So I'm sorry it wasn't me, alright? Dean, I'm sorry.

Bobby: Don't get me wrong, I'm gladdened that Sam's soul remains intact, but it does raise a sticky question.
Dean: If you didn't pull me out, then what did?

Sam: Once I figured out I couldn't save you, I started huntin' down Lilith, trying to get some payback.
Bobby: All by yourself. Who do you think you are, your old man?

Sam: We got a pile of questions and no shovel.

Dean: *to Impala* Hey, sweetheart. You miss me?

Dean: What the hell is that?
Sam: It's an iPod jack.
Dean: You were supposed to take care of her, not douche her up.
Sam: Dean, I thought it was my car.
Dean: *turns on car, cheesy song plays* Really?
Sam: *shrugs*
Dean: *rips out iPod, tosses it in the backseat*

Dean: So, you been using your, uh, freaky ESP stuff?
Sam: No.
Dean: Sure about that? Oh, I mean, now that you've got immunity, whatever the hell that is, just wondering what other kind of weird crap you got going on.
Sam: Nothing, Dean. Look, you didn't want me to go down that road, so I didn't go down that road. It was practically your dying wish.
Dean: Well, let's keep it that way.

Pamela: Dean Winchester. Out of the fire and back in the frying pan, huh? Makes you a rare individual.

Dean: *ogling Pamela's "Jesse Forever" tattoo* So, who's Jesse?
Pamela: *laughs* Well, it wasn't forever.
Dean: His loss.
Pamela: Might be your gain. *walks off*
Dean: *to Sam* Dude, I am so in.
Sam: Yeah, she's gonna eat you alive.
Dean: Hey, I just got outta jail. Bring it.
Pamela: *to Sam, passing by them* You're invited, too, Grumpy.
Sam: *grins*
Dean: You are not invited.

Waitress demon: So you get to just stroll out of the pit, huh? Tell me, what makes you so special?
Dean: I like to think it's because of my perky nipples.

Dean: Maybe it was some turbo-charged spirit, hmm? Or Godzilla.

Sam: I've been killing a lot more demons than that lately.
Dean: Well, not anymore. The smarter brother's back in town.

Bobby: How you doin', kid?
Dean: Aside from the church bells ringing in my head, peachy.

Bobby: You can't be serious.
Dean: As a heart attack. It's high noon, baby.

Bobby: This is a bad idea.
Dean: I couldn't agree more, but what other choice do we have?
Bobby: We could choose life.

Sam: We were thinking some high level demon pulled Dean out?
Ruby: No way. Sam, human souls don't just walk out of Hell and back into their bodies easy. The sky bleeds, the ground quakes... it's cosmic. No demon can swing that. Not Lilith, not anybody.
Sam: Then what can?
Ruby: Nothing I've ever seen before.

Dean: That's a hell of an art project you've got goin' there.

Bobby: This is still a bad idea.
Dean: Yeah, Bobby, I heard you the first ten times. What do you say we ring the dinner bell?

Sam: I don't know if what I'm doing is right. Hell, I don't even know if I trust you.
Ruby: Thanks.
Sam: What I do know is I'm saving people and stopping demons, and that feels good. I want to keep going.

Dean: You sure you did the ritual right?
Bobby: *glares*
Dean: Right. Touchy-touchy, eh?

Dean: Who are you?
Castiel: I'm the one who gripped you tight and raised you from perdition.
Dean: Yeah. Thanks for that.
Castiel: *smiles, nods*
Dean: *stabs him*

Dean: And what visage are you in now? What, holy tax accountant?
Castiel: This, this is... a vessel.
Dean: You're possessing some poor bastard?
Castiel: He's a devout man. He actually prayed for this.

Castiel: Good things do happen, Dean.
Dean: Not in my experience.

"Castiel: He's a devout man. He actually prayed for this."
Oh Cas.
I wonder if Castiel ever spoke with Jimmy after taking him as a vessel (either time).

Yeah, that's a good question. If Jimmy's still alive in there, I would imagine Cas can hear his thoughts. It would be nice if he communicated with him sometimes.

I wonder if Jimmy's soul is still in his body, though. The amount of times it's been blown to pieces and brought back, you'd think it would be easier just to reconstruct the body and stick Cas back in it... but then, it might be a "rule" that angels can't inhabit an empty vessel. Who knows?

I think in season 5 that Jimmy is no longer there.
Maybe at the beginning but the more human Cas become I'm sure it became more difficult for two beings to share one body.
Hopefully Jimmy's soul is in heaven.
But I do wonder if Castiel kept Jimmy asleep most of the time and that maybe other angels didn't do so with their vessels.
It may explain why Cas is confused by pop culture refs that even other angels seem to get.
Now I kinda wish that we get to see Claire and Amelia again in season 6 and have Castiel try and make up for the whole thing.

I would love to see Claire and Amelia again. I felt so bad for them, and now that Cas has more affection for humans, maybe he'll feel sorry about the way they were treated.

And yes, that's a good theory about the pop culture references. Although maybe Jimmy was just as clueless about them, LOL. But he didn't seem to remember much in The Rapture, so maybe Cas did keep him asleep for a lot of it.
