Public Service Announcement:

The new NBC show Chase is FANTASTIC. Especially last night's episode. Totally blew my mind. Jennifer Morrison plays a psycho shockingly well, if you can believe that.

Only problem is, I get the feeling that most people are watching Hawaii 5-0 or Castle in that timeslot, which makes me wonder how many people are missing out on the awesometasticness that is Chase, so I thought I'd provide the episode for anyone who might be interested in checking it out. If you love a good action sequence, tough women in charge, and/or awesome characters with hilarious banter, you'll love this show! I sure do, and I'd hate to see it cancelled before its time.

And now I have to rec this vid, which I saw on [livejournal.com profile] dm_lunsford's LJ and laughed myself silly over -

Stargate:SG-1 [The Movie] Theatrical Trailer, by DoubleTreble1518. It's a fanmade trailer for a fake SG-1 movie, and it is absolutely perfect and side-splittingly hilarious.

30-day TV meme )

Day 12 - An episode you’ve watched more than 5 times

This question makes me laugh SO HARD. Honestly, sometimes I can watch an episode 5 times in ONE NIGHT if it's a show I'm really into. So, um, yeah. There are hundreds of them.

I know it sounds weird, but I keep a tally of how many times I've watched eps from my fave shows, and the episode I've watched more than any other in the history of television is SG-1's The Curse. I loooooved seeing Daniel, Sam, and Janet strike off on their own like that. They were my Dream Team for quite a while there. And we finally got a glimpse into Daniel's past that wasn't about his parents dying, which I greatly appreciated. I think this must have been my feel-good ep for a while, and also one of very few that I had on tape for the first few months of my SG-1 obsession, because even for me, watching an episode almost 50 times is a little extreme. ;)

-----

So last night I watched Skin. Which I have to admit is another of my season 1 faves. And not JUST because Robert Duncan McNeill directed... ) Although that IS a lovely picture to have in my mind while watching the episode. ;)

It's probably an unpopular opinion, but I loved Rebecca. I loved the little sister vibe she had with Sam, how strong she was in spite of all the traumatic experiences she went through one after another, and how she didn't fall for any of Dean's (or not!Dean's) advances, and I thought the actress was amazing. I'd still love to see her again.

I wondered when Sam was going through his e-mails whether one of them was from Brady, and then Dean said, "Dude, what kind of people you hangin' out with?" and I just had to laugh. ;)

The whole "a hunter shouldn't have connections" speech... Slight spoilerage for later seasons )

This was the first time we saw Dean's attachment to the amulet. He ripped it off not!Dean almost as though he were more offended that he'd stolen his precious amulet than that he'd beat up his brother. ;)

Yes, I cried a little.

Random thoughts and observations:
*Why do they always poke at the skin blobs? Why? Whyyyyyyyy??
*We always talk about how everything happens in small towns on Supernatural, but they were actually in a CITY this time! *gasp*
*Sam mentioned San Antonio, Jared's hometown. I giggled.
*Sam knew right away that Dean wasn't Dean, and I always wonder how. It seems to take Dean a little while to figure it out whenever Sam isn't Sam, which makes me think Sam knows Dean better than Dean knows Sam, which... doesn't seem to be the way Dean sees it at all.
*Not!Dean talked about Dean's "dreams," and it got me wondering what they might have been. When and why did he get his GED? Did he really want to be a fireman? How long has he wanted his own family?
*This was possibly the first time they used songs as a soundtrack to the actual scene, rather than just whatever the boys were listening to on the radio or to usher an episode out. And the songs they used set the tone of the evil!Dean scenes PERFECTLY.

Two fics in one night! Woohoo!!!! :D

This one is Dan/Jan, because I promised Misty I would write her one if I managed to finish the SPN fic. And I did! So here you go. :)

Title: I Never
Author: MegTDJ
Category: Drabble, fluff
Rating: K
Pairing: Daniel/Janet
Spoilers: None.
Summary: It was a childish game, and Daniel knew it.
Disclaimer: I do not own SG-1. I’m doing this for fun, not profit. The only thing I own is the story itself, so please don’t archive this fic without my permission.

Author’s notes: Written as a gift for Misty, in response to the prompt “never.” :)

Sorry for the wait, Sara! Heh, late for my own ficathon... yeah, that's classy. ;)

Title: While You Were Sleeping
Author: MegTDJ
Category: Drama, humour, weirdness
Rating: PG/K+
Pairing: Daniel/Janet
Spoilers: Anything up to Rite of Passage (set in season 5). Also a mild Raiders of the Lost Ark spoiler. Don't ask.
Warnings: Mucho weirdness. Seriously.
Summary: My contribution to the 2008 [livejournal.com profile] danjanficathon. My prompt came from [livejournal.com profile] lexsara, who wanted "some mention/reference to Doctor Who, a MacGyverism, leather jacket," and did NOT want "heavy angst, depressing ending." Just remember... you asked for it!
Disclaimer: Stargate SG-1, its universe and its characters are not mine. The story itself is, however, so please don’t archive without my permission.

Author's notes: I blatantly stole this idea from an episode of Supernatural and the title from one of my favourite movies, but the weirdness that ensues from there is completely mine. And yes, I based the wackiest part of this fic on a dream I actually had. Shut up.

Thanks to Kerri and Misty, who convinced me to write and post this thing even though I'm pretty sure I would rather have died. Can I go hide in embarrassment now? *slinks off*

It has finally arrived, folks! The day that you can upload your own fanfictions to the Dan/Jan Challenge Archive!!! Much thanks to [livejournal.com profile] ses_gatergirl, who was awesome enough to help me set up the form! *squishes ses* You can find it here -

Try it out!

Mandatory fields, obviously, are mandatory. I would greatly appreciate it if you filled out every field, but those indicated by asterisks are the most important. It WILL NOT post your fanfics automatically to the archive - that's still up to me. However, it will cut down on the amount of time I have to spend trawling the internet for these stories, and therefore I will have more time to dedicate to actual updates. Plus, I won't have to ask permission to archive authors' stories anymore, or bug you with e-mails asking for you to send me your fics - I will simply not upload any fanfics that are not submitted directly to the archive. Now you can just upload them there as you post them elsewhere, and guarantee that they will appear on the archive in my next update!

Links are still acceptable, as long as the fics are on your own website or journal. Otherwise, just copy/paste the text of your fic into the "Text" box directly from your writing software. If you're feeling especially helpful, you could add in the HTML paragraph breaks to save me some time and work, but that is not required. Just remember that bolded or italicized text won't translate from your word processor to this form, unless you add in the HTML code yourself.

Works-in-progress will not be archived until the story is completed. There is no need to submit fics that are already on the archive, but you can send me fics from years ago if they are not yet archived there. Fics archived there DO NOT have to be written in response to a challenge - any and all Daniel/Janet fics are welcome. As always, NC-17 fics need to be hosted elsewhere and archived with an off-site link.

I think that's all the instructions/guidelines we'll need. Go try it out! Let's get this site full to bursting with Dan/Jan goodness!

(The form is linked to from the archive's main page, so it'll be easy to find whenever you need it.)

Okay, folks, the Dan/Jan 100 Prompt Challenge is officially underway!

The way this works is: You take a table full of prompts, use the prompts to inspire fic ideas, write the fics, post the fics telling us which prompt(s) inspired them, turn your table of prompts into a table of fic links, also submit the fics/links to the Challenge Archive, and watch the Main Table on the archive grow. In a nutshell. ;)

Instructions for the challenge can be found here - http://danjanchallenge.ms11.net/promptchallenge.html

Prompt tables and the codes needed to post them on your website/journal are here - http://danjanchallenge.ms11.net/prompttables.html

The Main Table that will gather all the responses together is here - http://danjanchallenge.ms11.net/promptmaintable.html

Some things everyone should know... I've broken the 100 prompt table down into 10 "bite-sized" tables of 10 prompts each, so if 100 fics seem a little too much for you to handle, you can still participate by taking one (or two or three...) of the smaller tables.

Also, not every fic needs to be Dan/Jan-related. Use these prompts however your muse commands and fill your table with anything you like! This IS a Dan/Jan challenge, though, so only your Dan/Jan responses will be linked to on the Main Table. For that reason, I would prefer that at least 4 out of each 10 fics that you write are Dan/Jan, but if you only manage one or two, I'm not going to send the fic police after you. ;)

Anyway... if you're interested in participating, please read the instructions carefully and take a look at the prompt tables, and then let me know to what extent you would like to take part. There's no time limit on sign-ups or submissions here, so no pressure. Just snag a table, put it somewhere that you'll see it fairly regularly, and soak up the inspiration. I can't wait to see the fics these prompts will inspire. :)

Hurry up, people, we're about to start!!

http://forums.delphiforums.com/gateviewforum/chat
meg_tdj: (Default)
Hey guys, do you know what tomorrow is? Not only is it Dan/Jan Day, but it's D/J Day's 4th anniversary!!

That's right, we've been doing this every month for FOUR YEARS now. Can you believe that? Seems like just yesterday we got this thing started...

For those of you not familiar with the story, it was Christmas day 2003 when Anna suggested that we D/Jers needed our very own holiday - a day when we could get together for chat, watch Dan/Jan eps, read/write lots of Dan/Jan fic, even eat Dan/Jan-related foods. We all thought it was an awesome idea, but we couldn't seem to agree on a date to set it.

Then we found out that 2010, the episode where Michael and Teryl officially started dropping Dan/Jan subtext into their scenes, had originally aired on January 12, 2001. We decided to declare January 12 "Dan/Jan Day" from then on, but we had so much fun with the first one that we decided to make it a monthly thing instead!

So, here we are 4 years later, and Dan/Jan Day is still going strong. Hooray for us, I say!! What other ship can say that??

To celebrate, I say we make this month's Dan/Jan Day bigger and better than ever. I'll be hosting a chat in Gateview, as always, but this time I'd like to make it even more special by watching 3 Dan/Jan-related episodes together throughout the evening. By this I mean that we'll all get our DVDs out at a set time, press play simultaneously, and chat about the episode as we watch it in real time. We've done it a few times before, and it's always loads of fun!

I know from experience, though, that if we just say, "Hey, let's watch an episode tonight!" we'll just end up debating what time to do it, which episode it should be, etc. So, I've taken the guesswork out of it for everyone. ;)

Here's the gameplan -

6pm EST (GMT -5) - 2010
9pm EST - Rite of Passage
12am EST - Lifeboat

This way, the vast majority of us will be able to watch at least ONE of these episodes, and a lot of us will even be around for all three. We'll be chatting in between each one, of course, so even if you can't watch the episodes with us, you're welcome to join us whenever you can for as long as you can.

Those of you who have never participated in our Dan/Jan Day chats... now's your time to get in on the fun!! Here's where you can find us -

http://forums.delphiforums.com/gateviewforum/chat

If you've had trouble logging on in the past, make sure that Java is installed and running properly on your computer, but that Java Sun has been disabled. (If you need help figuring out how that's done, just let me know.)

So... who's ready for the best Dan/Jan Day we've ever had?? :D
