SPN episode poll
Oct. 22nd, 2009 06:34 pmI'm always curious how people rank the episodes, so I thought I'd post polls as the season progresses, just to see which eps are the overall favourites and least favourites, and how quickly it changes once there are more eps to choose from. Please feel free to tell me in the comments why you picked what you did. I'd really like to know. :)
ETA: Just to be clear, the third option in the poll is for your LEAST favourite. Sorry for the confusion!
[Poll #1474948]
Favourite - The End. And it BUGS ME that I love it so much, because it was like The Dean Show, and that's... SO not appealing to me, heh. But it had Lucy!Sam!! And Chuck!! And Lexa Doig being awesome!! And future!Dean being all broken and angstful!! And Dean/Cas BFFness!! And Castiel being...well, Misha!! And down-and-dirty apocalypticness!! And Sam saying he wants redemption!! And some of the greatest Cas lines EVER!! And the return of the Croatoan storyline!! And THE BOYS GETTING BACK TOGETHER!!!! Honestly, if it had had more Sam, it would be in my top 5 of all time.
Runner-up - Good God, Y'all! Because it was pure gold from beginning to end. First with Bobby being all broken and sad, and Castiel and the amulet, then RUFUS!! ELLEN!! JO!!, the War thing was awesome, Sam being tempted by the blood AND TELLING DEAN ABOUT IT, lots of tension and angst and action and all-around awesomeness, and one of the most heartbreaking endings of anything ever. Excellent episode.
Least favourite - Haaard, because I've loved them all, but... Free To Be You & Me. Not for any reason other than I really wasn't interested in some parts of it, especially when it got to the whorehouse part. And then the whole suspension-of-disbelief about the raging fire in the middle of a hospital was... not working for me. And Raphael should have been played by someone with a little more presence, IMO. And Lindsay was annoying. The rest of it was awesome, though, with Jess and the hunters and the demon blood and some of the cute Dean/Cas BFFness and all, but... all the rest of the eps so far have had more about them to love, you know? So as of now, it's my least fave of the bunch.
So, that's me. What about you?

Date: 2009-10-22 11:22 pm (UTC)What do you mean by Castiel being funny? Are you talking about Sympathy For the Devil? I loved it when he "carved" their ribs, heehee!
Jo and Ellen rock!!

Date: 2009-10-22 11:18 pm (UTC)502 was my third-favorite and I, uhm, might have therefore voted for it in the third poll. Possibly.
Ooops.

Date: 2009-10-22 11:40 pm (UTC)So, I don't know if it'll turn out to be God who did it or just some other powerful being (Michael, maybe? I wonder if he will ever turn up to talk for himself, LOL), but I really don't buy that it could have been Lucifer. He just wants to take his vessel, kill all the other angels, and have creation all to himself.

Date: 2009-10-23 12:01 am (UTC)I think what Lucifer might be betting on is that Sam 'n Dean 'n Cas will eventually take out the rest of the douchebag angels for him, given how Dean's all "Screw 'em all. We'll kill 'em both." Plus, WRT Cas, I think it's a slippery slope thing in that Luce feels that Cas is already a rebel angel, he might saunter vaguely downward.

Date: 2009-10-23 12:31 am (UTC)Their Lucifer is very much a Milton-by-way-of-Constantine interpretation. It makes me giggle a bit.

Date: 2009-10-23 03:01 am (UTC)Runner up: The End. BECAUSE IT WAS WONDERFUL. Lucifer wearing Sam and Dean crying because it's KILLING HIM INSIDE and telling Sam his little brother, fuck up and all, makes him human, and Castiel with the '....I'll just be right here' for FOUR HOURS and then canon proof that Castiel would LOATHE ever not being an angel no matter what the really batshit crazy Dean/Castiel fans shriek (I have sane ones on my f-list thank god), CHUCK dropping his drunken recluse life to help Dean with the major refugee camp, the most kick ass female EVER, and bad ass jack ass Dean fucking WINchester of 2015 lskdfsd. *\0/* IT WASN'T PERFECT BUT IT WAS PRETTY DAMNED GOOD.
Least Favorite: Hard. I hated Dean's side in Free to Be You and Me because D&C literally accomplished nothing while Sam's side was kick ass with Lucifer. 506 was ruined for me by some of the fans' responses to it, the plot holes, and Dean was bugging me again (Dean! We used to be likethis! What happened?), not with his perv b/c honestly after hell and his temporary break up with Sam I was expecting him to be more aggressive (?) in some areas, but his comments on the kids powers. And his buzzer thing that came off Dean being passive-aggressive about his lingering anger, to which I want to tell him to just out with it to Sam already. But I say Sympathy for the Devil for the fact that I hated the deus ex detox, the cut from convent to plane to car, how Dean didn't know where Sam went before he came back with hex bags, and other character things in Dean that more or less bugged me. It had its awesome moments, like Dean refusing to be Michael's vessel, Chuck+Sam bff squint, Castiel kicking ass, I liked Becky (but dnw wincest in show and Chuck saying SHE was okay to not be spied on made no sense) and poor Nick's fall to Lucifer, but...yeah too much bugged me to really enjoy it.

Solid Episode: GGY. I loved War messing with Sam, Jo+Ellen, Rufus and lsdfldsf the tension between Sam and Dean was perfect.

Date: 2009-10-23 03:19 am (UTC)I loved Fallen Idols, so it makes me sad that so many people didn't. I agree with all the reasons you listed, even Paris Hilton - anybody who's willing to mock themselves to that degree goes up a notch in my estimation. ;)
and then canon proof that Castiel would LOATHE ever not being an angel no matter what the really batshit crazy Dean/Castiel fans shriek
YES!! At first I was scared, especially with this ep coming right after the whorehouse ep, because I was afraid that Cas would really want to go there at some point in the near future... but the fact that it turned out he was doing it all because he missed being an angel and felt so helpless as a human... GUH. THANK YOU, WRITERS!! In that moment, I loved Cas ten times more than I already did. Which is saying something.
I've honestly never understood why people class him as one of those "aliens who long to be human" characters, because he ISN'T, and that's always what I've loved the most about him. He's quite happy being who he is... in fact, I'd say he's the most content of any other angel we've met to REMAIN an angel. He just wants things to go back to the way they were, when God was in control and all was right with the world. He doesn't want to be human, but he's humanity's biggest advocate in the supernatural world right now because "they're all my father's creations." So yeah, I thought future!Cas was heartbreaking and tragic and SO IN KEEPING WITH THE CHARACTER. Excellent.
CHUCK dropping his drunken recluse life to help Dean with the major refugee camp
That was SO great to see! I think deep down all Chuck wants is to be an average Joe, so he was kind of living his dream there - no more prophecies and killer headaches, just plain ole Chuck trying to be important in seemingly unimportant ways (taking care of the toilet paper!! *squishes him*). I loved that. :)
because D&C literally accomplished nothing while Sam's side was kick ass with Lucifer
Ha! Totally. I really wish that had been Sam's equivalent to Dean's The End, because the Sam side of the story could have been way more in-depth while Dean's side was pretty much unnecessary and could have been waaaaay shorter.
And his buzzer thing that came off Dean being passive-aggressive about his lingering anger, to which I want to tell him to just out with it to Sam already
I got that impression from it, too. But it was also hilarious, so I'm conflicted. ;)
But I say Sympathy for the Devil for the fact that I hated the deus ex detox, the cut from convent to plane to car,
That did all happen way too fast. I was a little disappointed until they got to Chuck's place. Then I kind of forgot about anything else that had happened. ;)
Chuck+Sam bff squint
I WANT MORE CHUCK+SAM BFF-NESS!!!
Solid Episode: GGY.
Yes, that's exactly the word I'd use for that ep - solid. There really wasn't anything I would have changed about it. :)

Date: 2009-10-23 08:28 am (UTC)It's the first and only episode I could not stop capping I loved it so much. The End I capped a bit, but only the Samcifer/Dean confrontation and the ending were capped extensively. Fallen Idols? LOL, EVERYTHING. *____* I just wanted to snuggle this ep close and officially claim Supernatural as my show to enjoy, not watch out of morbid, sadistic curiosity how it could possibly get more depressing with a schizophrenic mytharc alongside.
"aliens who long to be human" characters, because he ISN'T
Yes, this drives me nuts! It's what made me really dig the tension between Castiel and angels like Uriel and Anna. Uriel who takes his angel status seriously, but to the point he's blinded by superiority he lost sight of the mission: to serve their Father. And Anna, who loves humanity and embraced emotions and questioning Authority that didn't come from their Father directly, but loved humanity so much that she risked EVERYTHING to be apart of it. Castiel was a balance right between the two, and it was fascinating to see him struggle to find his place, his own definition of what he was while the war was approaching. Then I started to dislike his character a bit a little before 4.20 and in 5.06 wouldn't have cared if he'd stayed a toy until the last episode, but I see flashes of the Castiel I went 'that is a BAMF, and aw he's interesting, tell me more!' in stuff like The End. I'm REALLY hoping they'll develop Castiel's God-thing appropriately instead of continuing to use him for cheap humor like Free to Be or making him an idiot. >< I want to hear about how far Castiel will go for this God he's been loving but feels so hurt by.
Chuck trying to be important in seemingly unimportant ways
Yeah! Poor Chuck, when I looked at him, and thought 'damn, he looks fine. And so does Dean. Is it realllllly so bad for Sam to say yes if I get all this?' xD But he was so put together and looking back at Monster at the End, where his creative process is getting drunk and passing out -- he's just not happy as a writer and I hope he gets a happy ending too.
I got that impression from it, too. But it was also hilarious, so I'm conflicted. ;)
SAM'S FACES WERE SO WORTH IT. About as awesome as Dean's 'that'll do, pig.' And 'LOOK WE DON'T HAVE A FRIDGE OKAY' --- lol white trash hick Winchesters > everything. THAT IS CLASS OKAY.

Date: 2009-10-23 08:34 pm (UTC)Yes!! That was exactly what made me love him in the first place. I really hope they get over trying to make him the butt of every joke and make him COOL again, because I just rewatched season 4, and I REALLY miss the old Cas. :(
'damn, he looks fine. And so does Dean. Is it realllllly so bad for Sam to say yes if I get all this?'
Hahaha! Considering we'd get Lexa Doig and Samcifer as well? Nah, not so bad. ;)

TOTALLY AGREED. LOL The "we don't have a fridge!" was seriously adorable. :D
